Chapter 11
In just one morning, Lillian’s striking face and her stories with the Wilson family became the hottest gossip among the seniors. Before long, even the younger students caught wind of the news that Yolanda had been adopted.
Lillian didn’t even need to post anything online. News spread like wildfire, and Lillian believed that in just a few days, almost every well–off family in Jerisburg would have heard some gossip about the Wilson family from their kids.
When Lillian arrived at the Wilson residence, she found a few people waiting on the couch.
Yolanda, looking hurt, still managed to say, “Dad, I’m okay.”
Yetta said, “Don’t feel bad, Yolanda. Even though you’re not our biological child, to your dad and me, you’re just like one.” It was hard to tell if this was meant to comfort her or add to her pain.
This scene seemed like a setup for an interrogation. Lillian ignored it and headed toward the stairs.
“Hold on a second,” Bradley called out. As Lillian kept walking, he quickly added, “I talked to Hank, and he said a professor from Jerisburg University recommended you. Who is it? How do you know them?”
Lillian replied, “It doesn’t really matter who it is. The point is, he is more capable than you. You, the chairman of Wilson Group couldn’t get me in, but a single professor did.”
Bradley was left speechless..
Mindy couldn’t believe it. “You know a professor from Jerisburg University, who even got you into Fillcrest High? What kind of tricks did you pull to make that happen?”
Lillian shot her a cold look. “What’s your problem!”
“You got into Fillcrest High, okay. But why did you tell everyone Yolanda is adopted? Even if you don’t care about her feelings, shouldn’t you think about the Wilson family’s reputation? You’re just making others laugh at us,” Yetta said, sounding self–righteous.
It seemed like she was aiming to protect Yolanda and the Wilson family, but it was really an accusation that fueled the fire and deepened the conflict.
Lillian smirked. “Oh, you guys actually know that stuff is a joke?”
Yetta fell silent. She realized that, despite appearing quiet, Lillian had a sharp wit that could really sting,
“I was just speaking the truth. Besides… Lillian glanced at Mindy and said, “She’s the one spreading rumors that I’m an illegitimate child.”
Then she looked at Bradley with a sarcastic smile. “I was just clearing things up for you.”
Mindy jumped up, eyes wide. “When did I ever say that? Stop making stuff up! It was Sierra who said it.”
Lillian stood there, a bag slung over one shoulder. Her hands were tucked into her pockets, and her slender figure radiated defiance. A teasing smile sparkled in her eyes–it was obvious she was doing this on purpose.
“Wasn’t she all high and mighty when she cornered me at school earlier? Lillian thought with a sneer, the smug smile on her lips almost driving Mindy crazy.
Yetta tried to hold back her urge to lash out. “Mindy has always been well–behaved. There’s no way she said that. Don’t wrong her
Seeing Bradley’s stern expression, Mindy stepped forward anxiously. “Dad, I didn’t do it. She’s making stuff up. If you don’t

believe me, you can ask my classmates. Lillian, tell the truth!”
“That’s enough!” Bradley’s loud voice cut through the chaos.
His face was pale with anger, but he stayed relatively calm as he looked at Lillian. “I’ve transferred 300 thousand for medical fees to your account. Let me know if it’s not enough.
“Since you’ve been admitted to Fillcrest High, focus on your studies. If there’s nothing else, go upstairs and rest”
“Dad–Mindy was upset upon hearing Bradley let Lillian stay at Fillcrest High. But when she met his stern gaze, she bit her tongue and decided to blane Lillian for everything that had happened today.
“I’ll say it one more time. She’s your sister. I hope you three sisters get along.” Bradley said sternly, leaving them all too afraid to speak.
Yetta reassured Mindy as she led her back to her room. “Don’t be upset. If you don’t want to go to school, then don’t go. You’re already set for college admission.
“I underestimated Lillian before. Maybe we’d better lay low for now and let her mess things up for herself. Let’s see how long your father can tolerate her.”
“Why should I back down? She’s the one who doesn’t belong at Hillcrest High, not me! I shouldn’t have to hide. Dad is always proud of me. If I skip school, how is he going to see that?”
“Alright, just ignore her at school. Endure these two months, and once you pass the SAT and get into Jerisburg University, you won’t have to be at the same school as her anymore, Yetta said.
She then returned to her room and found Bradley sitting on the sofa, pinching the bridge of his nose. She went over and massaged his shoulders,
When the moment seemed right, she suggested gently, “Lillian illness is probably fake. It’s good news she’s not sick, and I understand your desire to make amends.
“However, 300 thousand dollars is a substantial amount. Lillian’s never seen that sort of mindset, or she can’t judge people well and does something illegal with it.”
money before. What if it affects her
She sounded worried, but deep down, she was just jealous that Bradley was giving money to Lillian.
Seeing Brad staying silent, Yetta continued, “And about that Jerisburg professor, you should definitely investigate it. Lillian’s so inexperienced, she doesn’t realize how dangerous the world can be. Make sure she doesn’t get deceived.”
“What do you mean by that?” Bradley opened his eyes.
Yetta explained, “This is Lillian’s first time in Jerisburg. She hassle even learned her way around the streets. How could she possibly know a Jerisburg University professor willing to recommend her to Fillcrest High”
What she said made sense, and Bradley knew it deep down.
Yetta continued, “The card you gave her yesterday had 30 thousand, right? But that’s not enough to buy her way into Fillcrest High
“If she’s using your name to ask for favors, why would the other side keep it a secret? It’s obvious he’s doing it more for Lillian than for you.
“With all of Lillian’s absentee records, who would go out of his way to get someone broke and powerless into Fillcrest High if there’s nothing to gain?
“Even if that guy is a professor at Jerisburg University, who’s to say he’s not a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Lillian is so pretty, and I’m worried she’ll get distracted by the glitzy nightlife in Jerisburg
