Chapter 28
Yale asked, “When did you find out Samuel was that jerk?”
“The moment the bullet was taken out,” Lillian replied, her voice lat.
Yale was silent for a moment, then sincerely asked, “You and here really getting into some weird stuff. Damn, I said earlier that if you didn’t step in, he would be dead for sure, and it turned out you really did!”
“Get lost!” Lillian snapped, feeling annoyed. His words were just nonsense.
Yale said, “If Henry finds out, won’t he be furious? No way, we can’t let this reach him, it would totally mess with his mood.”
He changed his tone and started praising, “Lillian, you’re amazing! After recognizing his identity, you actually restrained yourself from killing him on the operating table. So, tell me, when are we going to deal with him? I’ll get ready.”
Lillian asked, “Aren’t you pretty scared of him?”
Yale said boldly, “He’s already died once at your hands, so what difference does it make if he dies again? We’ve really offended him.
“He didn’t die, and he’ll certainly want to settle things with Neragion, and you definitely won’t let him go either. This feud is deep–rooted.”
With no way out, Yale casually reverted to his usual laid–back self. “It’s either him or us. I can’t die; I haven’t started my company yet, so we have to take him down.”
Lillian couldn’t understand why Yale, a hacker, was so hung up on starting a company, and it had to be a publicly traded one -when did he become so driven?
“Hey, Lillian, I suddenly thought of a way to make peace with him. If it works, not only can you make amends, but the Lewis family and Neragion could be yours.” The more Yale spoke, the more doable it seemed, his tone turning serious.
Lillian thought he was up to something. Sure enough, Yale said, “Why don’t you just sleep with him?”
Lillian’s face was expressionless. “Remember, it was distance that saved your life.” If Yale had dared to say that to her face, she would definitely have kicked his head in.
“You’re not losing out. Samuel has everything–looks, physique, charm, skills, background, education, status, and power,” Yale enumerated on his fingers.
He added, “Aside from being a bit older than you, there’s not a single flaw, and that’s not even a downside. He’s older, so he’ll pass away sooner, and you’ll inherit his estate quickly.”
Lillian rolled her eyes. “Don’t be such a shut–in. Go out and get some sun to dry out the water in your head, so you won’t sway when you walk.”
Yale insisted, “I’m serious. From a certain angle, I think you two are quite destined. Tell him you’re Dawn, that he owes you for saving his life, and he should repay you. It doesn’t take any effort at all.”
Lillian couldn’t take it anymore and opened her eyes. “Yale Fairchild, did you eat something that messed with your head? Samuel is a dad of a kid who can run around!”
“No way! He’s known for being such a neat freak and a bachelor that people even started rumors he might be into guys,” Yale said, confused.
At that moment, compared to Samuel, Lillian really wanted to take Yale down a peg. With a fierce tone, she shot back, “You’re so full of it. Want me to date a gay?”

Yale looked uncertain and seplied, “Then should I have a try?
In the hospital, Samuel had just moved out of the ICU that morning, and although he was doing alright, he needed plenty of rest. The only company he had was Jesse, who stubbornly refused to leave his wide.
Jesse had dozed off beside him, although not very soundly. His shall hand clutched Samuel’s shirt under the blanke, and his eyes were slightly red and puffy.
Lillian had been resting in her room for two days, with the servants bringing her meal. Today, she finally made her way downstairs.
During her time resting, Harold had come to visit her several times, but Bradley always managed to send him away by saying she wasn’t feeling well.
Bradley knew that forcing her to see Harold would only make things worse. The Smith family would only let Sierra go if Lillian agreed.
It was the weekend, and Bradley was home. When he saw Lillian come downstairs, he first expressed concern for her health before bringing up Sierra again.
“Do you want me to let her go, or are you planning to step in for me?” Lillian asked.
Bradley was at a loss for words. Lillian had been wrongfully accused and bullied at school, and even Mindy was siding with outsiders, making Lillian the target of criticism.
If Lillian hadn’t been so resourceful and lucky, she could have been the one arrested. Even though she wouldn’t have actually gone to jail, her reputation would have been ruined if surveillance footage hadn’t proven her innocence.
And yet, as her father, Bradley was defending the person who attacked her. Acknowledging his mistake, he said, “I just think locking up a girl for so many years is too harsh.”
Lillian raised an eyebrow. “I wouldn’t mind if Mindy spent a few years in jail instead.” With that, she turned away from him and went to the garden with General.
Bradley was furious at Lillian’s comment, but he felt helpless.
On Monday, Lillian returned to school and handed the car back to Hank.
The usually noisy classroom quieted down when she walked in. Her classmates eyed her awkwardly as she made her way to her seat, then began whispering among themselves.
“She didn’t come for the last couple of days. I thought she was transferring to another school.”
“If anyone should transfer, it should be Sierra.”
“Does Sierra still want to keep studying? Forget it. She won’t be getting out anytime soon. I have relatives in the police. department, and her dad is freaking out.”
“Come on, with the Terrell family’s connections, Sierra was probably bailed out that same afternoon. It’s just a matter of throwing around some money.”
“Exactly, it’s not like she committed murder or arson. Besides, Bradley wouldn’t agree to let Sierra go to jail. They’re all about business, and profit comes first. This isn’t worth making enemies over.”
“I saw Lillian didn’t look too good. Maybe Sierra’s okay, but Lillian probably got chewed out by her family when she got

back.”
“It’s gotta be Mindy causing trouble again.”
“Sierra won’t be coming back to school at all, will she?”
At that moment, a boy called out, “L–Lillian.”
When Lillian turned around, the boy’s face turned bright red as he stammered, “Mr. Thompson wants you in the office.”

As soon as Lillian left the classroom, the boy whispered to the others, “Sierra’s dad is in the office. Do you think he’s here to give Lillian a hard time?”
A student sneered, “Give her a hard time? Sierra tried to frame Lillian, and now he has the nerve to come here and bother Lillian? He should be the one apologizing!”
“Come on, let’s go check it out,” the third suggested.
In the office, Harold looked drained and anxious, constantly glancing toward the door. When Lillian walked in, he quickly checked with Michelle and then moved toward her.
“Ms. Wilson, Harold said, extending his hand for a shake.
Lillian kept her hands in her pockets, clearly not interested in shaking hands.
Harold continued, “It’s great to finally meet you. I’m Sierra’s father. I know she messed up big time, and it’s my fault for not teaching her right. I truly apologize on her behalf. I’m really sorry.”
The teachers and students peeking in from outside were all taken aback by the scene.
They thought Harold was here to save his daughter’s reputation, but it seemed he was more concerned about his business image. Honestly, they never expected him to humble himself like this.
