Chapter 6
Lillian couldn’t hold back any longer. Almost on instinct, she tightened her grip on the fork and slammed it down, stabbing it right through Chris‘ hand resting on the table. The force was strong it nearly pierced the tabletop.
Chris screamed, his voice car–piercing, and his blood spilled over the table.
This brutal scene shocked quite a few people. Nobody expected such a fierce move from the innocent–looking Lillian
“Whoa… Luke, who was rushing to help, froze midway.

who had carelessly slapped the stuffed toy was shocked too, but he quickly reacted by getting up to grab a milk
Before he could reach it, Lillian grabbed his wrist, immobilizing him. She twisted his arm to make him face her, then kicked the back of his kuce, bringing him down to the floor.
Almost at the same moment, she grabbed the milk bottle from the table and swung it up. hitting another thug’s chin as he rushed at her, making glass pieces fly everywhere.
Her action was super fast and decisive, as if she could predict their moves. In no time, one thug was down, and two others were hur
“That’s so fast!” Luke exclaimed in surprise. Lillian’s kick was brutal, and it practically wrecked the guy’s leg.
Chris crashed to the ground, and his men backed away in fear, their faces as pale as ghosts.
General barked wildly, though his barks sounded almost cute in the chaos. If Jesse hadn’t been holding on tightly, he would have dashed out
Lillian glared at the thugs and said coldly. “Get lost
The thugs shivered, quickly grabbing their fallen comrades and fleeing.
Everything happened so fast, and Jesse didn’t even have time to call for help. He just stared at Lillian in awe, and so did the
crowd.
Lillian felt her appetite vanish. She glanced at Jesse and found he was staring wide–eyed. Thinking he was scared, she said, “Let’s head home.”
Just then, a sharp pain shot through her head, and she collapsed to the ground, motionless.
As the danger had passed, Luke had to turn back. But as soon as he got in the car, Samuel hopped out, Confused, Luke watched Samuel stride towards the food stalls, quickly noticing the commotion there.
Jesse was terrified, crouched down and shaking Lillian’s shoulder with his tiny hands, trying to wake her up.
People nearby slowly gathered, getting ready to call an ambulance.
Jesse anxiously searched for Willie but was relieved to see Samuel coming. He ran over and tugged Samuel toward Lillian Samuel looked down at the unconscious Lillian on the ground, expressionless. Seeing Jesse almost in tears, he moved the chair aside and scooped her up into his arms.
Luke, who had just arrived, stood there in shock. As soon as he figured out what was happening, he snatched up the two stuffed toys and took off after them.
Before he left, he spotted the blood on the table and felt a wave of worry, wondering if Jesse had been scared by all the

chaos
The car sped toward the nearest hospital. In the backseat, Jesse eld onto General and both looked anxiously at the unconscious Lillian beside them.
After a while, Jesse lifted his big, teary eyes to Samuel, seeking reassurance.
“It’s okay. She’ll be fine.” Samuel said, trying to comfort him.
In the hospital room, Lillian stirred awake. The familiar smell of lisinfectant told her she was in a hospital. As her eyes adjusted, she spotted Samuel’s tall figure standing by the window which snapped her fully alert.
Just then, General barked, catching her attention. She turned to see Jesse and General at her bedside, and that made her feel a bit more at case. Finally, she was able to see Samuel clearly as her vision cleared.
He stood tall and straight, giving off an air of noble elegance, but there was a distance to him that reminded her this refined look was misleading–he had an unmistakable, dangerous vibe.
Sensing her staring. Samuel turned around. He had a face that would win anyone over in a social setting. He wore a subtly patterned black suit that added to his reserved aura, which seemed to have its own power.
His deep eyes were mysterious and intriguing, but the sharpness in them quickly made anyone curious think twice.
To Lillian, Samuel felt completely dangerous. But as a doctor, she sensed he had health issues–they didn’t seem like an illness but more like an old injury that hadn’t healed.
Their eyes locked for a brief moment before Lillian quickly looked away. She glanced over at Luke across the room, noticed he was staring at her intently
and
Luke subtly shook his head, wearing a look that said he had figured out the situation. As soon as she woke up, she had her eyes on Mr. Lewis. Clearly, she is here for him.”
That look wasn’t very bright, so Lillian decided he wasn’t a threat and looked away. She sat up, glanced at the label on the IV drip, then removed the needle, letting a few drops of blood trickle down.
Jesse tried to stop her, his little hands reaching out.
I’m fine. I’m not anemic,” Lillian assured him.
Confused, Jesse turned to Samuel for help.
“The doctor said you should have a blood test and a full check–up when you wake up,” Luke jumped in, wondering whether she was really sick or just faking it.
In his view, compared to other women trying to get close to Samuel, Lillian was definitely resourceful and sharp, and she had a unique vibe.
Lillian glanced over at Samuel and then casually asked Jesse, “Is that your dad?”
Luke admired silently, Her casual tone is spot on. But she should have looked into the connection between Mr. Lewis and -Jesse. Or is she still pretending?”
Looking at Jesse’s face, it was clear that his parents must be good–looking. But Lillian didn’t expect “his dad to be this striking on top of everything else.
Jesse shook his head, silently indicating it wasn’t his dad. But Lillian, fixated on the pinhole in her hand, didn’t notice.

Chapter 6
As the bleeding stopped, Lillan peeled off the tape and cotton that secured the IV. She then took out her medicine, poured two pills, and looked for a water dispenser.
It was in the corner behind Samuel, a bit out of reach. Without second thought, she tossed the pill into her mouth and swallowed it dry.
Jesse, clutching General, looked like he was about to jump off the chair. Samuel had no choice but to fetch a cup of water for Lillian
The pill lingered on Lillian’s tongue, not yet swallowed. She took the water and said politely. “Thank you”
Only then did she find something familiar about Samuel’s face, but she couldn’t quite place it–it meant she wasn’t close to him, so she figured it didn’t matter.
After taking her medicine, Lillian didn’t linger, and they all left the hospital shortly after.
Lillian had planned to call a cab, but Jesse held onto her shirt, cradling General in his arms, while his eyes were locked on Samuel
Understanding Jesse’s emotions, Samuel reluctantly said, his tone strictly professional, “If you don’t mind, I can give you a ride, Ms. Wilson.”
“How does he know my last name? Did Jesse tell him? Even though he’s jesse’s father, I should probably keep my distance, Lillian thought. Samuel he a way of making people defensive, and she wasn’t feeling great now.
But Luke had already pulled up, and Jesse was persistent. Also, the late April night in Jerisburg was still a bit chilly, so Lillian climbed into the car.
“How much were the medical bills? I’ll transfer it to you,” she said, holding back her discomfort as she pulled out her phone. Before Samuel could respond, Jesse shook his head.
“No need to be so polite, Ms. Wilson, Samuel said.
Lillian didn’t bother to argue with him much. She put her phone away and closed her eyes to relax.
Jesse, still holding General in his arms, began dozing off on Samuel’s lap.
Samuel whispered, “If you’re sleepy, go ahead and sleep.”
Jesse yawned, leaning into Samuel’s embrace, his eyes still watching Lillian with concern
