Chapter 1
Returning from the peacekeeping battlefield, I stumbled upon. my pregnant sister’s wedding.
I was just about to give Leila Parrish my blessings when a sharp pain exploded at the back of my head.
I struggled to turn around and saw my boyfriend, Antonio Kaufman, standing there gripping a bloodstained vase.
Leila sobbed pitifully, “You rushing back won’t change anything. Antonio and I are getting married today.”
Antonio shielded her protectively. “Grace, Leila is carrying my child. She’s not in a condition to be stressed. If you have any problems, take them up with me. Just don’t touch her!”
In the past two years, Antonio had told me countless times that he missed me, urging me to return home.
Yet now, he had gotten Leila pregnant and was about to become my brother–in–law.
I had only come back because an explosion on the battlefield left me too injured to continue my medical duties.
And now, after Antonio struck me with a vase hard, my injuries worsened. I soon lost consciousness.
I woke up to find myself in the dimly lit basement of the Parrish’s residence, instead of a hospital.
They had thrown me here, stripping me of my phone.

Upstairs, the sounds of a joyous wedding echoed. Antonio and Leila were getting married.
Memories of my conversations with Antonio over the past two years flooded back. He had told me countless times that he missed me, begging me to come home.
Yet just moments ago, that same man, in a groom’s suit, had smashed a vase over my head.
I couldn’t make sense of it. I struggled to get up, wanting to go upstairs and confront him.
However, the door was locked from the outside. No matter how hard I tried, it wouldn’t budge.
I banged on the door, shouting. But no one answered.
Pain wracked my body, forcing me to collapse to the ground. I clutched my wound and gasped for breath.
Finally, the basement door creaked open.
It was my father, flanked by two bodyguards.
They eyed me warily, afraid I’d storm out and ruin the wedding.
It was as if I wasn’t just as much a daughter of the Parrish family as Leila.
Before I could even speak, my father coldly said, “Gracie, stop it. Your sister and Antonio are already married. He is now your brother–in–law.”
Pain twisted through me as I forced myself to ask, “How did they even get together? And why did no one tell me all this

Leila had to be at least six months pregnant.
They had been hiding it from me all along.
My father had a mixture of emotions on his face.
He sighed.
“We kept it from you for your own sake. We didn’t want you to be upset while you were overseas.”
Then, he added, “Gracie, be the bigger person. Let Antonio go. You’re smart and beautiful. You will find another man.”
I felt as if I no longer recognized my own father.
I stared into his evasive eyes, swallowing the bitterness rising in my throat.
My voice was hoarse as I asked, “Didn’t you say you didn’t like Antonio? You said he wasn’t good enough for our family. Why is it okay for Leila to marry him now?”
