Chapter 13
My cheek burned with pain.
Across the table, Antonio sneered venomously.
“Grace, selfish people like you deserve betrayal.
“Since you want the truth so badly, fine. I was already fooling around with Leila before you even left the country. While you were pulling late shifts at the hospital, we were checking into hotels! Are you satisfied now?
“You can keep your money. I don’t care. I’m married to your sister now, so your family will get me what I want!”
I couldn’t help but raise my hand and slap him back.
The slap was so hard that it nearly drew blood.
“Antonio, that was well deserved,” I said icily.
Suddenly, Leila stormed in from nowhere, ready to attack me.
Fortunately, I had a backup. Colin rushed over from a nearby table and shielded me.
“Grace! How dare you slap my man? I’ll kill you!” Leila shrieked.
I reached my hand over Colin and slapped her too. “Shut up!”
Leila actually shut her mouth, probably intimidated by my rare rage toward her.

Back at Colin’s place, I locked myself in the bathroom.

It felt terrible to be betrayed by my boyfriend and deceived by my family.
The past two days had been suffocating. Everything I had believed in was crumbling.
They weren’t done tormenting me. Three days later, while Colin was applying medicine to my wound, I got a call from the court.
My father had sued me, accusing me of stealing their money and demanding full repayment.
I almost laughed with rage. That money was left to me by my mother. What did it have to do with them?
Still, I hired an expensive lawyer just in case.
The night before the trial, my father called. “Gracie, we don‘ have to go to court. Just hand over the money. I promise we will do right by you when you get married.”
This man might be responsible for my mother’s death. Of course, I wouldn’t trust his promise.
“Let the judge decide,” I said coldly. “Let’s see if the judge thinks I stole anything. Right, Dad, you’ve taken over 200,000 dollars from my account. If I win, shouldn’t you return it?”
