Chapter 20
Gatlin hesitated for a while and got down to business. “I’m disappointed in your sister for pushing you downstairs. And your stepmom’s moral standard is questionable. Gracie, you’re the only one I can count on.”
It turned out that Gatlin wanted me to look after him in his old
age.
I decided to agree. After all, I could go back on my word anytime.
Even if I had to support him by law, I could pay the least money I should pay.
So I responded in a level voice, “OK. I know what to do.”
The next day.
Gatlin called and said nervously, “Gracie, Kara was killed in a car accident!”
Kara was awful to me, but I still felt bad.
Meanwhile, I thought in confusion, “Wasn’t she mentally unstable? Why was she driving?
“Did Gatlin lead her to drive?
“Then Gatlin would’ve killed her indirectly!”
I was actively engaged. I went with Gatlin to collect Kara’s body and helped organize the funeral.

I had no idea and didn’t wanna find out what he was thinking.
In the middle of the funeral, Leila got in under the police’s
escort.
When Leila saw Kara’s picture, Leila got on her knees and burst into tears.
I didn’t feel pity for her at all. She had her birth mom’s love over the past 20 years, but what did I have?
Suddenly, Leila got up and rushed to me. “You murderer! You killed my mom! I want you dead!”
I moved backward to keep a distance. Soon, the police overpowered her.
I looked at her angry face and said in a cold voice, “Your mom died in a car crash. What does it have to do with me? You’re a grown–up now. Stop blaming others for everything.”
Leila was emotionally unstable, so the police took her away.
After the funeral, I was about to leave when Antonio came
over.
“What?” I asked in a gruff voice.
He put on an injured look. “Grace, can’t you be nicer to me?” “What do you want this time?” I was impatient.
He answered, “I miss the time when you liked and cared about me…”

I took a step back in disbelief and thought, “He’s my sister’s husband. Doesn’t he think it’s inappropriate?”
I stared at him for seconds. “You’re Leila’s husband. We’d better not see each other again.”
“No! I can divorce her! Do you still have feelings for me? Let’s get back together.” Antonio was wearing an expectant face.
