I couldn’t believe what Antonio had said.
When I finally calmed down, I pushed him away and said with indifference, “I don’t like you at all. You can get together with anybody but me. I feel sick when I see you.”
He paused before saying, “How could you say that? You’re heartless…”
I left with no response.
From then on, Gatlin often contacted me.
“Leila is in jail. Kara is dead. And I have nothing to talk about with Antonio. Gracie, can you come home more?”
“I’ve been busy at work and will go see you when I’m free.” I made up an excuse.
I went back to work at the hospital and lived in the dorm for employees.
Because of my experience in Malicao, I got promoted.
But it was no big deal to me. I just wanted to focus on the medical cause.
Meanwhile, I worked with Colin on 2 papers, which were both published in a famous medical magazine.
To celebrate it, I went to his place.

When we were eating and drinking, Colin looked at me with glowing eyes. “Grace, you’ve changed a lot. You’re more mature and poised.”
“Maybe because I’ve gone through a lot,” I responded with mixed feelings.
In Malicao, I helped countless injured people, some of whose injuries were so serious that I could only let them die. On 2 occasions, I was even in danger and almost got killed.
What had happened in the peacekeeping operations shaped
- me.
When I came back, I found out about Antonio’s and my family’s betrayal. They were a catalyst for my growth.
“What are your plans now?” Colin asked.
“Working hard and saving more lives.”
“What else?” Colin asked a follow–up question.
“What else?”
“Like…are you still open to a relationship?”
My heartbeat accelerated for some reason.
The next second, Colin declared his feelings. “Grace, I like you.”
Although I was over Antonio, I wasn’t ready for a new relationship yet.
So I responded, “Can you wait for me for some time?”

He sounded serious. “I’ll wait for you for as long as you want.”
The other day, I was doing paperwork when a nurse said to me, “Dr. Parrish, your dad wants to see you. He is on the first floor.”
Right after I got there, Gatlin rushed over and grabbed my arm, saying with a worried look, “Grace, something big happened to our family!”
“What is it?”
“It’s Antonio! He disappeared with all my money! I can’t reach him. Do you think he’s gone for good?”
