Chapter 22

I didn’t expect Antonio to do that kind of thing.
However, since he cheated on me, he should be a man of low
moral character.
“Why did you come to me? Call the police,” I said emotionlessly.
Gatlin’s eyes widened. “He was your boyfriend. Can’t you find him?”
I was amused. “Turns out you know it’s past tense. We’ve been out of touch for a long time. I gotta work. Deal with it yourself!”
I was about to go upstairs when he grabbed my wrist.
“You can’t go! You’re my daughter. Help me fix it. If you can’t, give me the money back!”
I struggled free and called the security over to take Gatlin out.
“Grace! How can you do this to me? I’m your dad!” Gatlin shouted.
I looked at him with a poker face. “Didn’t you notice that I had stopped treating you as my dad? I had only one parent, which was my birth mom. And the man who beat her and cheated on her is dead in my heart.”
“How…how do you know I beat your mom?” Gatlin’s eyes were
like saucers.
I squinted at him and answered, “The truth gets out eventually.”
Shortly after Gatlin left the hospital, he sent me an apology text, “Grace, I did hurt your mom when she was alive. But that was because she cheated on me and I was afraid of her leaving me.”
“Please forgive me. You’re my only family now. Are you sure you wanna do this to your own dad?”
I didn’t expect him to make that up about my mom. Too bad my mom couldn’t refute him.
I went to his place that night.
Gatlin was excited to see me. “Gracie, you’re finally back. Do you have money with you? Since Antonio took all my money, I didn’t even have enough money for meals.”
I slapped him twice.
He fell to the ground and moaned with pain.
I looked down at him and hissed, “I won’t give you money. Do you want slaps?”
“Grace, how dare you slap me! Are you insane?” Gatlin huffed.
I responded, “You made up a rumor about my mom cheating. Say that again, and you’ll see what I’m capable of.”
Hearing that, he didn’t dare to say a word.
I kicked him and left.
“Grace, I brought you up. Is this the way you repay me?
Chapter 22
Where’s your conscience?”
I said with a poker face, “My conscience disappeared the second I found out that you’d been lying to me.”
