CHAPTER 033
LAURA’S POV
I felt a burning, twisting pain in my abdomen, but it was nothing compared to the blaze raging in my chest.
How could Jason do this to me? Me, of all people?
My parents sacrificed their lives for this company, and this was their reward. A humiliating dismissal of their child, with Ava, a lowlife replacing me as Design Director?
She not only took Jason from me but now has also claimed my position.
I crouched on the chilly tiled floor of my apartment, holding my abdomen. The suffering had transformed from solely emotional to a physical, intense, and ceaseless ache.
My eyesight became hazy, and nausea surged in my throat. I required assistance, but the last thing I wished for was anyone’s sympathy..
Still, I dialed Jason’s number.
“Jason,” I choked out when he answered. “I I think something’s wrong. My stomach hurts my baby. I need to go to the hospital.”
There was a pause, long enough to make my blood boil.
“I’ll send the driver,” he said flatly, his torie devoid of any warmth.
He hung up before I could respond.
His coldness stung more than the pain in my body. He couldn’t even be bothered to take me himself.
No, he was probably too busy playing house with his pathetic wife Ava, celebrating her new promotion, while I was left to rot.
The ride to the hospital was a blur. I barely noticed the sterile smell or the nurses bustling around as I sat in the waiting room, seething
My mind raced, replaying the events of the past 24 hours like a broken record. I should have been more careful, and shouldn’t have left any evidence Chloe could use against me
But no, I was careless. And that pathetic lowlife, Chloe, had exposed me. Jason had sided with Ava. And Ava, that smug little saint, had everything I’d wanted.
But I wouldn’t let her enjoy that position or my man. Not for long
I would take back everything she stole from me and ensure she never finds happiness in her life or marriage.
I would do anything, it didn’t matter how far I had to go. I would make sure she was never happy.
Let her enjoy this newfound happiness while it lasts.
When the nurse called my name, I stood, swaying slightly, and followed her to an examination room. But just as I turned a corner, I froze.
There she was. Ava
She was sitting on a bench in the hallway, holding a file close to her chest. Her expression was unreadable, but when her eyes flicked up and met mine, I saw the briefest flash of panic.

Immediately, the pain I was feeling dissolved, and my eyes burned with anger.
She quickly stood and tucked the file behind her back, her movements stiff and guarded.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, narrowing my eyes.
Her lips parted as if to speak, but she hesitated. “L… I had some work to take care of,” she said, her voice tight.
I glanced at the fi
file she was clutching so protectively. “Work? At a hospital?” I let out a low, bitter laugh.
Her face turned red, and she stepped backward. “I don’t have to explain myself to you, Laura. Perhaps you should concentrate on your own issues for a change.”
With that, she spun around and hurried down the corridor, vanishing into an office.
However, she had already sparked my interest. What did that file contain? And what made her so anxious to conceal it from me?

Upon returning home, I walked anxiously around the living room, my fury providing me with a vigor I hadn’t experienced in hours. 1
Ava was concealing something – something significant. And if there was one thing I excelled at, it was revealing
secrets.
I picked up my phone and flicked through my contacts until I located the name I was looking for: Dr. Samuel Croft He was in my debt, and I planned to demand it.
The phone rang two times before he answered. “Laura,” he said carefully. “What can I assist you with?”
“I need information,” I stated, my voice sharp. “Concerning an individual at the healthcare facility.”
There was a pause. “Laura, you know I can’t…”
“Don’t play coy with me, Samuel,” I snapped. “You and I both know you’ve bent the rules for less. This is important.”
He sighed heavily. “Who’s the patient?”
“Ava Campbell,” I said, venom dripping from her name. “She was at the hospital today, carrying a file she didn’t want me to see. I need to know what it’s about.”
“Laura, I could lose my license…”
“And I could remind the board about that little incident with the overbilling last year,” I interrupted smoothly. Do you really want me to do that?”
The line went silent for a moment, and 1 smirked. He was cornered, and we both knew it.
“he muttered. “I’ll see what I can find. But this stays between us, understand?”
“Fine,”
“Of course,” I said sweetly. “I knew I could count on you.”
I ended the call and reclined against the couch, a pleased prin forming on my face. Ava may believe she’s victorious, but I wasn’t done playing just yet.
Whatever she was hiding, I would find it. And when I do, if it was something I could use against her, I would make her suffer dearly.
