CHAPTER 041
ALEX’S POV
I couldn’t get Ava out of my head even as I walked out of her ward, the image of her sitting on the hospital bed looking pale and fragile replayed in my head causing my heart to ache.
She needed to eat, especially with how much she had thrown up earlier at the restaurant so I decided to get her something to eat at the hospital cafeteria.
I stared at the takeout box in my hand, I had ordered something light – a soup and some crackers, the scent of the warm food rising faintly through the packaging
Walking up to the nurse’s station, I cleared my throat. “Excuse me, Miss,” I said, holding out the box. “Can you make sure Ava Campbell gets this? I was the one who brought her here. She’s in Room 203.”
The nurse glanced at the box, then at me, her expression softening “Of course. I’ll deliver it right away.”
“Thank you,” I said, exhaling slowly.
I had received a message from my secretary earlier informing me of Jason’s presence at the company, and I wondered why he was there, although I had a clue as to why
When I arrived, Jason was already in my office pacing back and forth like a caged animal. Seeing him made my stomach churn.
“Jason,” I greeted, keeping my voice calm but firm. “What brings you here?”
Jason stopped pacing and turned to face me, his expression dark and cold. “I think you know why I’m here.”
I raised an eyebrow, walking around my desk. “Unless this is about a collaboration or something work–related, I have no idea.”
Jason’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at his sides. “Ava, he spat, his voice icy.
“What about Ava?” I asked, keeping my tone calm and acting clueless.
Jason’s glare deepened. “You’ve been acting way too familiar with her. You brought her flowers to the office- flowers, Alex! What exactly is your relationship with her?”
I raised an eyebrow, leaning against my desk. “Flowers? That was a professional gesture, Jason. She was partly the reason for the success of my jewelry launch and I heard she was promoted so I wanted to congratulate her. What’s wrong with that?”
Jason scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, right. Because every boss brings flowers to their female business partner. Very professional.”
I let out a dry chuckle, “And what does that have to do with you huh?”
He remained quiet but his glare spoke volumes. I continued “Last I checked, Ava is just your employee, why do you care so much about a simple gesture?”
“Is there something I should know?” I looked into his eyes but he didn’t utter a word. “Well, she’s a friend to me. Our relationship is purely platonic, there’s no improper interaction between us.”
Jason gave out a bitter laugh and reached into his coat pocket, pulling out his phone. “Nothing inappropriate, huh?” he said, wiping his screen before shoving the device to my face.
I froze, for a moment I was speechless.

CHAPTER 041

On the screen were photos of me in the restaurant, holding Ava as she struggled to get back to her seat. My blood boiled instantly
“What the hell is this?” I demanded, glaring up at him with a fire burning in my eyes.
Jason’s glare deepened. “You tell me. Why were you holding her?”
I narrowed my eyes, trying to process his question. What right does he have to ask me that? I know Ava is his wife but he keeps referring to her as his employee.
So he had no right to question me about her or have someone tail us.
“You’re having someone follow Ava?” I asked, my voice low and cold. “Are you seriously spying on your own employees?”
“She’s not just an employee,” Jason shot back, his tone cutting.
Lapto
“No,” I agreed, leaning forward. “She’s clearly more than that if you’re stooping to this level.”
“Who does that, Jason? This isn’t just controlling… it’s disgusting”
Jason slammed his hand on my desk. “Don’t you dare judgeme? Keeping tabs on my wife isn’t disgusting. it’s protecting what’s mine.”
The room went silent for a brief moment.
I blinked, my mind spinning. He had finally admitted his relationship with Ava.
“So,” I said slowly, standing up and meeting his glare, “you’re finally admitting she’s your wife.”
Jason’s face shifted, his confidence falling. “How do you know?”
I almost laughed, but the situation wasn’t funny. “You might as well wear a badge that says ‘Bad Husband,“” I snapped.
“It was obvious to me. The way you treat her…it’s like a dead giveaway.”
Jason opened his mouth to argue but said nothing. He just stood there, glaring at me like I was the problem, while he was the one favoring a vicious woman like Laura and letting his wife go through emotional pains.
He didn’t even know his wife was pregnant,
“Stay away from her,” he said, his voice low and threatening
“Or what?” I challenged, stepping around the desk to face him directly. “What are you going to do, Jason? Keep following her? Keep ignoring the fact that she’s miserable while you play the role of the absent husband?”
Jason’s eyes flashed with anger, but I wasn’t finished. “And while we’re on the subject,” I continued, my voice rising, “if you care about her so much that you’re willing to have her followed, why don’t you show up when it actually matters?
“Did you know she fainted today? That she ended up in the hospital? Or were you too busy playing detective to notice?”
His expression turned to one of confusion, “Hospital?” he repeated.
“Yes, hospital,” I said firmly. “She collapsed at the restaurant. She was throwing up, struggling to breathe. I took her to the hospital because someone had to.”
“And where were you? Oh, that’s right- you were too busy looking at photos of me helping her to notice.”
CHAPTER 011
Jason’s face immediately turned pale and he looked genuinely shaken like he had just seen a ghost.
