CHAPTER 043
CHAPTER 043
JASON’S POV
I stared at the divorce papers, my chest feeling heavy. Ava wanted to end it. My mind was blank, and I couldn’t think straight.
How did it get this bad? How did I let her slip away?
The buzzing of my phone broke the silence, but I didn’t grab it right away. It buzzed again, snapping me out of my thoughts. I checked the screen -it was Laura.
I groaned, frustrated. “What now?” I muttered before answering.
“Jason, you need to come to the office right now,” Laura said. She sounded serious.
“What’s wrong?” I asked sharply.
“There’s an emergency. I can’t explain everything on the phone, but it’s bad. You need to get here fast,” she said.
I sighed, rubbing my face. I didn’t trust her, not after all the trouble she caused at Alex’s jewelry launch, but if it was important for the company, I had no choice.
“Fine, I’ll be there,” I said and hung up.
On the way, my thoughts kept drifting back to Ava. The divorce papers were burned into my mind but what stayed with me more were the memories.
I thought of how happy we’d been in the beginning. Ava’s laughter when we cooked together, the way her eyes lit up when she talked about her designs, and the quiet moments when she would fall asleep on my shoulder.
How did we lose all that?
I knew deep down that Laura had a role in destroying my marriage but what could I do? I can’t push her away, my family and I owe her parents a lot.
By the time I reached the office, I already regretted coming
The office was calm – too calm. People were working like normal. No sign of an emergency. My jaw tightened as I walked to my office. Each step made my anger grow.
When I opened the door, Laura was sitting on the edge of my desk. “What’s the emergency?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
She grinned. “Oh, that? It’s all handled now. No need to worry.”
1 froze, staring at her. “You lied to me,” I said, my voice colder.
She shrugged, not caring, “It’s not a lie, I needed to talk to you, and you weren’t answering my messages.”
I clenched my fists, holding back my anger. “You pulled me away from something important for this? Do you even realize
I stopped talking when her eyes landed on the folder in my hand. She tilted her head, curious.
“What’s that?” she asked, stepping closer.
“It’s none of your business,” I said sharply, turning to put the folder away.
CHAPTER 043
But Laura wasn’t one to let things go. She moved closer, and her face lit up with recognition “Wait are those divorce papers?”
I didn’t answer, but my silence gave it away. Her face broke into a wide smile. “Finally!” she said. “You’re leaving Ava?”
Her words made my stomach twist.
I turned to her, my voice steady. “No,” I said firmly. “Ava’s the one who wants the divorce.”
Her smile faded for a second, but she quickly shrugged it off “Even better,” she said, laughing softly. “If she’s leaving, then we can finally be together. Don’t you see, Jason? This is our chance.
‘Stop,” I said, cutting her off. “It’s not what you think.”
She frowned, confused. “What do you mean? If she’s leaving, that means we can be official. Isn’t this what you want?”
I stared at her, feeling a mix of frustration and disbelief. “Laura, you don’t get it,” I said, my voice calm but firm.” I’m not divorcing Ava.”
Her eyes widened. “What?” she asked, stepping back. “Why not? She doesn’t want you anymore. Why are you holding onto her when you don’t need to? You have me, Jason.”
I shook my head. “This isn’t about you,” I said, trying to keep my cool. “It’s about Ava. I love her, and I’m not giving up on her just because things are hard.”
She looked at me like I was crazy. “Jason, she’s done with you. Why are you wasting your time? I’ve been here for you, through everything. I understand you better than she ever could.”
“Enough,” I said sharply, raising my voice. “This isn’t about what you want, Laura, I’m trying to save my marriage, not throw it away,”
“But you know I got divorced because of you Jason. I’m supposed to be your wife.” She muttered.
Got divorced because of me? Did I ask her to?
Her eyes held a glint of sadness in them, but I didn’t care. What filled my head was Ava, and how I was going to fix my marriage.
I inhaled deeply, trying to keep calm. “Laura, I appreciate everything your family did for me when my company needed help. But let me be clear – what we had ended years ago. It’s over. I don’t love you, and I never will.”
Her face fell. “Jason…” she began, but I raised my hand, stopping her.

“You divorced your husband for your reasons, Laura, but it had nothing to do with me. I never asked you to do that, and I will never choose you. My heart belongs to Ava, no matter what you think ”
“As for this…” I gestured to the folder. “It won’t happen.”
For a second, she looked shocked. Then her face hardened, and she crossed her arms. “You’re making a mistake, she said bitterly. “She’s never going to love you like I do. One day, you’ll see that, but it’ll be too late.”
I didn’t reply. I was done with this conversation. Without looking back, I turned and walked out of the office, leaving her behind.
As I waited for the elevator, my thoughts were all over the place. Ava… I didn’t know how I was going to fix this, but I couldn’t lose her.

One thing was sure I would never agree to a divorce.
