Chapter 10
CARINA
“You are aware of the necessary rituals before two wolves can get married, right?” Luna Selene asked, looking at Falco, who was leaning on the doorway, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“I am aware,” Falco sighed. “I wouldn’t become an Alpha if I was clueless about it”
“I’m just making sure,” she said.
We were currently in the Alpha’s house, meeting with some of the pack elders, along with my parents.
Then, Lana Selene turned to me with a warm expression. As a Luna, she had always acted kind to all her people–including me. I smiled up at her.
“Are you really alright with this, darling?” she asked.
I nodded. “Yes, Luna. I have already made up my mind.”
“Alright,” she softly said. “So, for the benefit of everyone, I shall be sharing the rituals needed to be accomplished before. their wedding.”
“First,” she started off. “They need to live under the same roof.”
“We have a spare room,” Falco said, but Luna Selene shook her head.
“No,” she quickly said. “She shall stay with you in the same room.”
“Mom,” Falco said, clicking his tongue.
“I don’t think this is necessary, Luna,” my mom said, intercepting their conversation. “Rina would be grateful for the guest room. Right, Rina?”
“It is my house,” Luna Selene smiled. “So, you go by my rules. I don’t want to break the sacred ritual of their wedding.”
My mom pursed her lips and refrained from saying anything more. With that, Luna Selene continued.
Alpha Raven looked at his wife with a smile, shaking his head in amusement.
“Second,” she said. “They shall attend the interview conducted by the council. This interview will test their love for each other and their ability to lead the pack. It’s a newly implemented rule that the council came up with to build stronger packs and connections–especially since there have been way too many cases of separation in the werewolf world.”
Falco massaged the bridge of his nose.
“And last,” she continued, looking at the two of us with a suspicious smile. “Since you two aren’t mates, we need to take the extra step. You need to perform the special copulation on a full moon.”
“Copulation as in…,” I started off.
“As in sex,” Luna Selene bluntly said. “Falco needs to put his—”
“We get it, Mom,” Falco sighed.
“Dad,” he said, turning to Alpha Raven. “Control your wife, please.”
Alpha Raven raised his hands in surrender. “She hasn’t said anything wrong.”

Falco shook her head. “Anyway,” he said. “The last step isn’t necessary.”
“What do you mean?” Luna Selene frowned.
“We don’t have to copulate,” Falco said.
“Why not?” she asked. “How can you complete the requirements for marriage?”
“We’re mates,” Falco said, glancing at me.
My eyes widened, I wasn’t expecting him to say it in front of everyone.
My parents were also shocked, looking at me for an explanation. However, I didn’t bother meeting their gazes.
Luna Selene even stood from her seat, appearing pale from Falco’s revelation.
“You’re mates?” she exclaimed. “How come I’ve never known? How long have you known?”
Falco pursed his lips. “Mates aren’t that big of a deal these days, Mom. Like you said, there’s already a special copulation process for non–mates who want to be with each other.”
“Because of wolf overpopulation, most people don’t even get to meet their mates,” he added.
“And that’s what makes it so special!” Luna Selene exclaimed.
Falco ran his fingers through his hair. “You and Dad aren’t mates, Mom.”
“Falco,” Luna Selene said in a scolding tone, making the entire room go quiet.

Then, she sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. “I know that you are doing this out of convenience for the pack,” she started off, her voice firm.
“However, this is something that shouldn’t be regarded as a joke. Now, I cannot dictate what you choose for your relationship, but I will intervene when I feel that it is getting out of hand.”
Falco pursed his lips and nodded. “Yes, Luna.”
With that, Luna Selene went back to her usual cheery self. “You don’t have to worry about the preparations for the wedding. I will be the one worrying about that,” she said.
Then, she turned to me once more and placed her hand over my shoulder.
“Tell me what kind of dress you want to wear, okay?” she softly said.
I was so taken aback by her kindness that all I could do was nod.
“Well, everyone’s dismissed. Falco, go write to the council about your intent to marry,” she said.
Falco didn’t say anything more and just left for his office. Meanwhile, the pack elders went on their way.
I couldn’t help the smile forming on my lips as I stood from the couch and left the Alpha’s house with my parents.
However, my smile quickly fell when I felt my mom’s sharp nails against my skin, bringing me closer to her body,
“Oww,” I said, trying to take my arm away. However, she held on for dear life.
“What are you smiling for?” she asked.
I quickly pursed my lips. “Nothing, Mom, I muttered.

You’re mates?” she asked with gritted teeth. “How come you never told us?*
7 thought you weren’t curious” I said, sounding sassier than I had intended.
Sheen out a chuckle You’re right. We aren’t curious. However, I could see how happy you are. How could you even smile when Bilco is merely doing this because Natalia hasn’t come back?”
Her grip on my arm became even tighter, causing me to flinch. However, I didn’t want to show that I was hurt.
“Don’t enjoy this too much, Rina,” she said with a small smile. “I am telling you this as your mother.”
Falco may be your mate, but he was never yours to begin with…and he will never be yours in this lifetime.”
“Because he is Natalia
“Always remember that.“
