Chapter 14
CARINA
Falco chuckled in disbelief. Meanwhile, Renesme kept the smirk on her lips, her arms crossed in front of her chest.
I felt a shiver run down my spine. This woman was scary! Now, I understood the sentiment of the couple we saw outside of the building.
“You have deduced that by the few questions you have asked us?” Falco asked, not wanting to back down.
She smiled. “You must think that the council will give you preferential treatment just because you are a well–known Alpha. However, that is not the case. I do not believe your story.”
“You don’t know our story,” Falco said with conviction.
“I know enough,” Renesme said.
Falco opened his mouth to say something, but I intercepted the conversation before I could stop myself.
“We were lying,” I loudly said, causing the two of them to turn to me with nquiry. Renesme’s eyes widened, while Falco’s narrowed. He looked into my eyes, silently asking if I had lost my mind.
And maybe, I did.
However, I had sensed Falco’s desperation from my seat.
I cleared my throat and straightened my posture, placing my hands in front of my lap to stop the tremors from
nervousness.
“Well, I lied,” I continued, a small, nervous smile appearing on my lips.
“That wasn’t when I first met Falco,” I started off. The two of them were silent as they listened to my story.
“It was in the forest. He was injured and on the verge of death. A broken boy was left all alone on the rough ground. It was a sight to behold. Despite it all, I noticed Falco’s beauty,” I muttered.
“He was taken in by our Alpha and Luna, and ever since, he has captured my attention. I knew he never noticed mine,” I chuckled. “But that was okay. I was content with watching him from far away. He had always been strong, but a lot of people misunderstood him just because he was a rogue. However, I didn’t get it. Why do people judge based on the past and not what they see?”
“Anyway,” I continued. “I liked him for a long time. However, he never looked my way. I hoped that one day he would. Then, on the day of his inauguration, we found out we were mates,” I smiled.
“It felt like finding an oasis in the middle of the desert. I never expected it. I thought fate would be against us, too. However, the Moon Goddess helped me.”
I knew I was rambling, but I was too deep into the story to stop now..
“It wasn’t easy after that, though. Falco was still as cold as ever,” I chuckled, and to my surprise, Renesme smiled at the story,
“But I didn’t give up,” I said. “I tried to capture his heart until I did.”
I knew I was lying now, but I still kept the smile on my face to make the story believable.
“He asked me if I could be his, and I knew I should have given him a harder time, but I said yes. It was true that he courted me for a year. However, it felt like we had been together since that period. That was why we had varying answers a while

back.”
Falco still hadn’t said anything, and I didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing.
“And now, here we are,” I said, cutting the story short. “We truly weren’t ready back them. It was partially because of me. I didn’t know if I could be a good Luma. I think you would see on my profile that I’m wolfless. There were a lot of people who were against it. There still are.”
“However, Falco encouraged me to fight for this, so we came here,” I continued, concluding the story.
With that, I lifted my head and looked at the two of them. They had similar expressions, but I couldn’t quite tell what it was.
1 looked at my trembling hands, so I balled them into fists. I wished someone would hold them right then and there, but I knew that was a far–fetched wish.
It felt pretty awkward sitting in silence. Had I ruined it even more with my rambling? I pursed my lips, afraid to meet their
gazes.
Just then, Renesme cleared her throat. Afterward, I heard the sound of a stamp hitting the table, causing me to lift my head.
A genuine smile was on her face, making me surprised.
Then, she slid the piece of paper–the permit–toward our way.
“You should thank your wife, Alpha Falco,” she said, smiling at me.
“Wife?” Falco echoed.
“Well, it would go there, wouldn’t it?” she asked with a soft chuckle. “I apologize for my lack of judgment. You should have said your real story from the very beginning. I didn’t like how scripted you sounded before.”
“However, hearing Carina’s story, I am convinced. The two of you will have a lasting relationship. That is rare in this world these days, so I hope you treasure what you have.”
Falco still appeared shocked, but then, a small smile made its way to his lips. He held onto the permit and nodded.
“Thank you,” he said.
“It’s my job,” Renesme said. “Now, be on your way. I know you are still preparing for your wedding. The council is sincerely happy for your union, Alpha Falco.”
“You are lucky to have Carina by your side,” she said.
My heart raced as she complimented me. Nobody has ever said such a thing–especially not from a near stranger.
Falco glanced at me, causing my breath to hitch.
“Yeah, I am,” he softly said, making my heart melt.
And with that, he held onto my hand and led me out of the meeting room. Everything happened so fast that I didn’t even have any time to internalize what was happening.
However, Falco’s next action made me snap back to reality. We were still inside the building, with other people looking at us, probably wondering if we had gotten the council’s approval.
Just then, I felt myself getting lifted off the ground. I yelped as Falco enveloped me in an embrace and slightly lifted me up.
“We did it, my wife.”
