Chapter 17
CARINA
I didn’t have enough time to process what was happening. All I knew was that Falco’s lips were against mine, and he had pushed the pill inside my mouth.
His lips released the cool water, so I unconsciously swallowed. The pill went along the water, and before I knew it, I had calmed down.
His lips stayed on his mind for three more seconds before he moved back.
My hands clenched at my sides.
“Your medicine is really effective,” he muttered, still looking at my lips.
1 pursed them together. I didn’t trust myself not to kiss him again after what just happened. At that moment, I knew it wasn’t the medicine.
That dang red pill didn’t work in a blink of an eye. None of my medicines do! So, it must have been Falco. He was the only outlier compared to the other times I had such episodes.
“Do you experience this often?” he softly asked. He was still holding onto me, and I melted into his touch.
I shook my head. “Not often,” I muttered.
“That’s good then,” he whispered.
I felt really tired, so I closed my eyes. At that moment, I forgot we were in the middle of the street, stuck in front of a dark forest under the rain. For a second, it was just me, Falco, and the sound of relaxing droplets.
He sighed and suddenly pushed his seat back. “Co. here,” he said.
I opened my eyes and looked at him with confusion.
“Let’s go to the back seat,” he said. “It looks like the rain isn’t going to subside tonight. It would be much more comfortable there.”
I nodded and followed him to the back seat, my body still feeling tired. He pushed the front seat forward and opened his arms again.
I warily looked at him. “You’re shaking,” he said. “Come on. You must be cold.”
I pursed my lips. Something about this felt too good to be true. However, how can I deny such a blessing when it was right in front of me?
With that, I went to his arms, and he encased me in them. I instantly felt warm. It felt so right being in his arms.
“I apologize,” he suddenly said. “For yelling. It must have sent you over the edge.”
I shook my head. “I’m sorry too,” I muttered. “I don’t know what got into me. I just felt too scared, so I said those words.”
He sighed and nodded. “Yeah, can you wait until tomorrow?”
I looked around, and although I felt a chill of fear down my spine, I felt it would be okay if I was in Falco’s arms.
“Hmm,” I hummed, leaning closer against him.

I gulped. Was the universe actually listening to my prayers now? Why was it that Falco was acting so sweet?
*And mos of all, you’re Natalia’s linie sister/
And with that, I realized that the universe was just playing with me, after all.
“Even though she hasn’t explicitly asked me to take care of you…“
That’s because she didn’t care
“I still want to. You’re important to her.”
I highly doubt that.
My chest squeezed at the thought of Falco taking care of me just because I was Natalia’s sister. I pursed my lips and focused my gaze back on my lap. His hold on me had loosened, and I was brought back to reality once again.
I sighed and shook my head, silently feeling how his chest rose and fell with every breath.
And then, before I knew it, I had already fallen asleep,
The second I opened my eyes, I realized that the car was already moving. I jolted in my seat and found I was still in the back. Falco was driving silently, with the radio playing in the background.
I looked outside and saw that the sun was shining bright.
“We’re near,” Falco said. “Go ahead and continue resting. I’ll wake you up when we’re there.”
“Hmm,” I hummed. However, I sat straight and looked out of the window. Based on the scenery, there would only be a few minutes left before we arrived at the pack. So, I decided to stay awake with Falco.
As soon as we arrived at the pack, I saw Alpha Raven and Luna Selene waiting outside of their house. They had looks of relief as the car pulled over.
Falco got out first, and I watched as his parents smothered him with care.
Then, Luna Selene glanced at the car before gently slapping Falco’s arm.
I read her lips. “Why didn’t you open the car door for her?”

That was my cue to get out. I got out of the car, and Luna Selene shook her head.
“Falco was just about to get you, honey,” she said.
“No, it’s okay, Luna,” I smiled. “We’re back.”
“Falco told me the news,” Alpha Raven chimed in. “I’m glad you guys are okay. Congratulations on the permit, too. You must have shown them your sincerity for them to agree.”
I glanced at Falco and nodded.
Luna Selene held onto my shoulders and smiled. “You’re one step closer to being a part of our family. Why don’t we celebrate-”
Before she could finish her statement, I heard my mom’s voice behind us.
“Rina!” she exclaimed.
I turned around, feeling dread fill my stomach. Her face wasn’t that of concern or even relief.
“Come to the house immediately.”
