Chapter 3
CARINA
Matra
Supposedly, the one person destined for you. A perfect match created by the universe to complete your soul.
As a kid, I thought the whole concept was stupid. Why didn’t we get a choice? Why were our lives decided by some invisible bond?
Well, it wasn’t like I could feel the pull intensely in the first place. I was wolfless, so I wouldn’t have the same privilege as that of other people.
Yet, that changed when I met Falco.
I didn’t just want the idea of a mate anymore; I wanted him to be mine.
But, of course, fate had other plans.
Fate had chosen Natalia.
Well, Falco had chosen Natalia. That much was clear.
The realization settled heavily in my chest as I returned home after the inauguration.
I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t. It felt like my entire body was numb. Maybe, I should have expected this.
Natalia had stayed behind, basking in the adoration of everyone there. Meanwhile, I trailed home with my parents in their car. It was only a few blocks away, but it felt like an eternity before we got to our house.
“Natalia and Falco are going along well, aren’t they?” my mom started off. “With how things are going, she might become his Luna. It doesn’t matter if they are mates. They are the perfect pair!”
“Our Natalia, a Luna,” my dad added with a proud smile. “Can you imagine? The entire pack will look up to her.”
“Of course,” my mom chuckled. “It’s her destiny. She’s always been a bright kid, so this is just expected of her.”
They didn’t even glance at me. Not once.
I quietly excused myself, retreating to my room. The walls felt smaller than usual, pressing in on me as I made my way to the bathroom.
Turning the shower on, I stepped under the stream, letting the water wash over me.
Was this it? Was my two–year unrequited love coming to an end?
For months, I’d watched Natalia and Falco orbit each other. It wasn’t a secret–Natalia had made her interest clear. She wasn’t one to wait for fate to act, even after I’d confided in her about my feelings for him.
“I like Falco,” I’d said, my voice barely above a whisper.
She had laughed, brushing it off like it was nothing. “He’s out of your league, Rina. You know that, right?”
I pursed my lips, not knowing how to respond.
“Well, you should try to get over it,” she advised, patting my shoulder lightly. “He won’t ever glance your way!”

she didn’t stop herself from pursuing him. Of comer not. Natalia never hesitated to take what due wanted
For three months, they’d been inseparable. I was spared the word of it, though. They were both in the accelerated class, white 1 nudged along in the normal one.
Out of sight, out of mind or at least, that’s what I told myself.

The son notification from my phone pulled me out of my thoughts. I grabbed it from the sink, the screen glowing with a
new theage.
It was from Natalia.
“Bring me your perfume to the Alpha’s house, Go to Falco’s room.”
I stared at the words, clicking my tongue. Was she serious? After everything that had just happened, did she really expect me to run errands for her?
My fingers hovered over the screen, tempted to ignore her and let her deal with it. But then, her follow–up text came.
“I’ll tell Mom and Dad.”
I sighed, knowing I didn’t have much of a choice. I’d never been one to stand up to Natalia, not when she always had the upper hand. Grabbing the perfume from my dresser, I slipped on my shoes and headed out into the cool night.
The Alpha’s house wasn’t far from ours. As expected, it was the largest house in the entire forest.
As the daughter of high–ranking parents, I was used to being around luxury, but the Alpha’s house still had a way of making me feel small.
My footsteps were light as I made my way inside. The hallways were quiet, but the remnants of the party still remained.
I found Falco’s room easily–it wasn’t the first time Natalia had sent me here to deliver something for her.
I hesitated outside the door, my hand tightening around the perfume bottle. A soft sound came from inside the room, muffled but unmistakable. My heart sank.
“Ah, Falco!” Natalia moaned loudly.
I pursed my lips. For such a big house, you would think they had soundproof walls.
I could also hear Falco’s muffled groans and the sound of skin and flesh slapping against each other.
I shouldn’t open the door.
I should leave the perfume and walk away.
But some cruel, masochistic part of me needed to see. I needed to confirm the truth, no matter how much it hurt.
Pushing the door open a crack, I peered inside.
Falco was there, his back to me.
Then, in his arms was none other than Natalia.
Her blonde hair spilled over her bare shoulders, and she was laughing softly, her voice like a melody. She was perched on the edge of the bed, leaning close to Falco, who sat shirtless, his broad chest catching the faint light.
“Just like that,” she continued to moan while I remained frozen.

That was my breaking print.
Somehow, their lips meeting with each others hurt more than the act they were doing
I turned around, and with that, the perfume bottle slipped from my grasp, bading on the floor with a soft daud
Falco’s head snapped toward the sound, his eyes narrowing as he turned to face me
For a moment, our gazes met, and I thought I saw something in his expression.
However, Natalia grabbed his face once more,
“Don’t mind her. She’s nothing she whispered against his lips.
I couldn’t breathe.
The world blurred as I turned and fled the room, the sound of Natalia’s moans echoing behind me. Tears stung my eyes as I stumbled through the hallway, my chest tight with the weight of my heartbreak.
It wasn’t just my perfume she’d taken.
It was everything.
My parents.
My hopes.
My first love.
